Linking For Website Traffic

Links are the lifeblood of Search engine marketing. It is not necessarily the number of incoming links, but the quality of the links. The quality of the links will also show with the targeted website traffic.

When looking at websites to link to you should pay attention to their page rank. If you have not already done so you should go to google. Com and download the google toolbar for your web browser. Remember a 5 or better is really good. But don’t be afraid to link to less, they could be starting out like you.

There are a number of ways to make incoming, or back links;

1/ The first, and my favorite are, writing and submitting articles. It is easier than it sounds. Write about something you are passionate about, preferably along the line of your website theme.

2/The second is posting to forums. Search the net using your keywords, and find forums along the same line as your website theme. Just follow the forum for a while, until you get the feel for them. Then try posting, don’t forget your signature file.

3/ The third, posting to other blogs. This is very much like posting to forums so just follow the steps above.

4/ The fourth is submitting to directories. This one you have to be very careful when doing. Do not use automated software, you don’t know where it is going, and some directories will see this as spam. Apply only to a few directories at a time. If you suddenly appear on hundreds of directories at once, the search engines may penalize you. Another reason not to use automated software. Be choosy about the directories you apply to, some are just link farms. A directory will have two things.

5/The fifth thing is social book marking. This is where you join a community such as face book or twitter and then add your site under favorite sites.

6/ The sixth and probably the best are to directly contact the Webmaster. When doing so, always be polite. Explain to them exactly what you have in mind. Don’t beat around the bush or try to sell them something. If you come to an agreement, go back in 30 days to make sure your link is where it is suppose to be.

Now a days getting back links is getting even easier, because of web 2.0 .It seems that everything on the web is becoming interactive. Most sites now have blogs or message boards or something along that line.

Again I don’t like to use automated software to build my links. It is one way to get a lot of untargeted website traffic. And let’s face it; what we need is targeted traffic.

After you have the back link caught up, it is important to stay on top of them. Sometimes a page is taken off your website or maybe you just added a more appropriate page. You should contact the Webmaster and suggest another page.

Remember “It’s not him with the most links, but him with the right links”.
