Linking for web traffic is good for two reasons. It raises your rating with the search engines, and it provides instant-targeted traffic. But only if you do it right
Avoid automatic submission software. Sure it will link you to thousands of sites. Most of the sites will turn out to be FFA sites or link farms, and they will bring you no web traffic.
The search engines have caught on to this practice, and see it as spamming. They could (and probably would) penalize you, or even pull your site right off the search engine and once you are blacklisted by search engines you stay blacklisted.
The best kind of link to have is a one-way incoming link. There are a number of ways to achieve this;
1/ Summit to directories
2/ Write and post articles
3/ Comment on blogs and message boards, remember your signature file
4/Provide new and unique content.
5/ Post on Social media pages
6/ Pay for links
The second way to build links is reciprocal links. That is a link to a website, and the Webmaster links back to you. You have to be careful doing this. Stick to relevant sites, and always check up on your link. Sometimes a link could be accidentally left out.
